Modi and Muslims: Misconception created by anti-nationals - By Zafar Sareshwala

In a recent interview given by film script writer Salim Khan to a leading journalist he has an interesting comment: “Does anyone remember who the Chief Minister of Maharashtra was during the Mumbai riots which were no less deadly than the Gujarat riots of 2002? Does anyone recall the name of the chief minister of UP during Maliana and Meerut riots or Bihar CM when the Bhagalpur or Jamshedpur riots under Congress regimes took place? Do we hear the names of earlier chief ministers of Gujarat under whose charge hundreds of riots took place in post-Independence India? Some of these riots were far more deadly than the 2002 outburst. The state used to explode into violence every second month. Does anyone remember who was in charge of Delhi’s security when the 1984 massacre of Sikhs took place in the capital of India?”
Why just distant riots, does anyone remember the fate of hundreds of thousands of Bodos and Muslims who were uprooted from their villages in July 2012 because their homes were torched and destroyed? As of August 2012, over 400,000 people had taken shelter in 270 relief camps, after being displaced from almost 400 villages.
The Assam chief minister delayed deployment of the Army by four days even though a large number of army units were stationed right there in Assam. Thousands are still living under sub-human conditions in refugee camps. Why are those riots already forgotten?

The political discourse in India is so vitiated by Modi phobia that even if you express happiness at the quality of roads in rural Gujarat or 24×7 power supply in the villages and towns of Gujarat, you are branded a  “supporter of fascism.” To say a word in appreciation of governance reforms in Gujarat is to commit political hara-kiri – you are forever tainted and tarred with the colour of fascism.
I also found it puzzling that almost all of those who have led the Hate Modi campaign are neither Muslims nor residents of Gujarat. Three of the most prominent figures of the anti-Modi Brigade from within Gujarat are not Muslims. Then there are those Muslims who have hardly visited Gujarat and do nothing more than sit in TV studios either abusing Modi or abusing Muslims who work to build bridges.
Some Hate Modi campaigners are those Muslims who don’t even visit India. Sitting in the US and UK, they run a five-star armchair criticism industry and don’t want to do anything tangible for the Muslims of Gujarat or anywhere.
Wherever a Gujarati Muslim has tried to speak in a different voice, he has been attacked viciously and made to pay such a heavy price that people just shut up in terror. The highly respected and eminent Muslim scholar, Maulana Vastanvi, was forced to resign as Vice-Chancellor of Deoband simply because he said Gujarati Muslims had benefited from the inclusive development policies of Modi’s government.
Shahid Siddique, the editor of an Urdu daily, was attacked and abused endlessly for simply doing an interview with Modi in which Modi defends himself ably.
And now, very recently, noted scholar Zafar Mehmood from Delhi is being hounded for having a dialogue with Modi. Zafar Mehmood had come to Gandhinagar to make a presentation as a Speaker at a Youth Conclave where Modi too was one of the speakers along with the ex-President of India, APJ Abdul Kalam, renowned banker Deepak Parekh and several others.
Although his presentation was very scathing against the BJP and he put several questions regarding the Muslim development and state of the riot victims, he was still vilified just because he shared the stage with Modi.
Young Maulanas who had come to the Youth Conclave from Hyderabad were made targets too, to the extent that they had to give interviews to the media saying “Have I committed a sin by meeting Modi?”.
The large number of Muslims included in the Youth Conclave was for the first time and it was not possible earlier. These are signs of changing times and new political evolution. And yet it would be very unfair to target this Youth Conclave as an exercise to present Modi. It was an apolitical conclave where Modi was rather a silent listener for the whole day and spoke only for a few minutes towards the end.
Over a period of time since 2003 interactions have been going on between Modi and various Muslim groups. Apart from his non-partisan schemes for all Gujaratis, Modi has extended his hand to interact with Muslims. So far more than 178 different groups of Muslims have met Modi on different occasions, taking their issues of schools, colleges, madarsas, jobs, jails, housing, etc, to him.
Modi has every time heard the delegation patiently and has taken prompt action wherever required. To one group he had said about 2002 that “yeh mere kaal kaa kalank hai, mujhe ise dhona hai.” His actions have spoken more than words. Modi has expressed his remorse several times in the past during his television interviews and also at his victory speech on the 20th of December 2012, where he said: “Mere haathon se kisi ko bhi takleef pahunchi ho to mein kshama chahta hun“.
As recently as his latest interview given in late June to Reuters, Modi was compassionate and was expressing his pain. But, as usual, his remarks were unnecessarily distorted and maliciously presented by one and all.
Muslims judge Modi by his actions and they will judge any other politician by what they do and not by what they say. The best parameter to judge a leader will be by his deeds. So the whole debate of saying sorry ends here. The consistent and growing electoral support to Modi from Gujarati Muslims shows that Muslims have already moved on.
I would sum up this point in the words of Mahesh Bhatt, who said in 2012 why the Hate Modi closure in not happening.
“Unfortunately, there are some conflict entrepreneurs who live off conflicts. Like, the war industries would cease to exist if human hatred evaporated. They have a tremendous investment in this hatred, so to keep the demon alive is to keep their God alive. They draw sustenance from this hatred. Those who talk of secular values need to go back and study the Mahatma because in the pages of the Mahatma there is no concept of the kshatru (enmity).”
(Zafar Sareshwala is a Gujarat businessman who has confronted Modi on 2002, but later decided to build bridges with the Gujarat government in order to be of practical help to the community.)

Whether Real World or Social Media, Modi is Number 1

modi social media strategy, modi twitter follower list, shashi tharoor twitter“The past is a foreign country; they do things differently there.” The world around us has moved on a decade yet some people refuse let go of the past. Either they haven’t been bestowed with the mental wellness or they do it out of compulsion. Such is the compulsion that even if it rains in Timbuktu, they would blame him. The man is none other than social media’s undisputed King, Narendra Modi.
No politician in this country has been subjected to the kind of vile, abuse & criticism as Narendra Modi has been through both, by main stream media & alternate media (read as, Social Media). Yet, he has remained unperturbed by this decade long vilification campaign, focussing all his attention on just development of his people & state. A decade later, Modi outshines all his peers. And this is not just limited to the seminars, public gatherings& political rallies, but now also on Social Media. In a short span of 4 years, Narendra Modi today is the most followed politician in India. No wonder, whenever he speaks, Twitter comes to life instantly! Readers, today there shall be no witnesses, because when it comes to Him, numbers speak. As always!
Top 10 politicians1 on Twitter (World):

Top 10 politicians1 on Twitter (India):

Just as in real life, Modi is no longer just an individual on internet. His following & craze now runs into millions. This puts him in the Top 10 league of most followed politicians in the world & the most followed in India. It wouldn’t be an overstatement if such a rise in a span of just 4 years can be termed astronomical. In 2009, Modi came on Twitter. By 2010, he crossed the 1 lakh follower count & in November 2011, 4 lakhs. A year later he crossed the million mark! In a span of just 6 months, today he is at the Numero-Uno position with 1.8+ million followers! What makes his rise astonishing is that no politician post independence has been hounded & boycotted by media the way Narendra Modi has been. And still continues to be at their receiving end. But just like he puts his rivals/opponents/critics in a catch-22 situation in which they eventually end up biting his bait, the story isn’t very different when it comes to media. If they boycott him, the fence sitters drift towards him thus increasing his numbers. If they show him, his ideas get an additional medium for propagation. Over the past decade, every stone hurled at Modi in the form of abuse & constant vilification campaigns, has boomeranged. He turns every adverse situation into an opportunity. He uses those same very stones to build monuments of even greater magnitudes. Monuments so high, that his opponents begin to dwarf in front of him.
But then this medium is open to all. So why has only Modi succeeded & the rest haven’t? The answer lies in his penchant for excellence. To understand this, one must read his tweets. They are: Short, concise, to the point & no murdering the English language or its grammar to fit it within the 140 character limit. But the most important aspect is that, all of this happens in real time! So while he is in the middle of a speech or tour, snippets of it are constantly updated in real time& available on: Twitter, Facebook, Google+, YouTube, & almost a dozen such social networking sites (this excludes the BJP websites). You may not have that many social networking website accounts but Modi is on every one of them. He will outdo & outnumber you. Login to his YouTube page & a short 2 minute video greets users with the vast variety of ways they can interact with the CM. Apart from this, he has an exclusive app at the Google Play & iTunes store where Android, iPhone & iPad users can download his app & stay connected to his speeches, news & events in real time! That is not all; he has a personal tv channel & a very well designed personal website, www.narendramodi.in. On the website, there’s an Interact section where visitors can: a) Write to him b) Request an appointment right from their home & c) Invite the CM to an event. All of this at the click of a button! This is what sets Modi away from the league.
Every bit of his work has a stamp which signifies two things: 1) That he works only with professionals and that too with the best of them 2) His eye for detailing & excellence.
Why did Modi move to Social Media?
Over the last decade, like every other politician, Modi too needed media for propagating his work, ideas & a success story called Gujarat. Thanks to media’s apathy & bias. While the success story just kept getting wider & stronger; Modi’s dependence on media began to shrink. Today, the tables have turned. An exclusive interview of Modi is nothing short of a scoop! Modi has explored & used social media to the fullest & to build his own parallel network which can put the viewership figures of many prime time tv news shows to shame! Take a sample of the follower count he enjoys on just 3 of these websites: Twitter (1,819,636), Facebook (2,154,581) & Google+ (624,400). The total is a staggering 4,598,261! [Adding YouTube (46,278), it comes to 4,644,539]. With such huge, self built machinery at disposal running into millions, it not only spreads every word he says in real time but puts enormous pressure on main stream media. Such a huge fan following brings with it a committed viewership which translates into TRP’s for media channels. Therefore ignoring him is no longer an option as it hurts their business interests too. Such is the craze that now when Modi rises to speak; he begins to trend on Twitter! No other politician in India can boast of any such thing. Eventually, Modi has not changed the rules but the whole game altogether, vis-a-vis media.
Putting numbers in perspective; the worth of having around 5 million followers:
To put this number in perspective, let us compare this figure of 5 million against some other mediums. The comparison need not have a 1-to-1 correlation, but shall give an idea of the magnitude & worth of this important figure.

A sample of the pace at which Narendra Modi’s follower count is increasing:

As you can see above, from June 20 till date, while Tharoor has managed to add just 20,000 odd followers, Modi went from 1.73 million to 1.82 million! Since the numbers are huge & competition stiff, an article shall remain incomplete if reactions from his closest competitor aren’t mentioned. On June 28, Tharoor tweeted a picture which read “Vote for Shashi Tharoor. After all he made Twitter famous in India”. Tharoor has till date enjoyed the number 1 position, but when apprised that it is now only a matter of days when Modi shall take the top slot, he reacted by saying “not all followers are fans”. Here’s another irate tweet. But the most interesting tweet is this byte he gave to ANI. A “believing Hindu”, Tharoor is known to speak his heart without mincing words. As a result, he has been on the receiving end of controversies originating from Twitter. He has spent more time being outside the government than being a part of it, in both his stints as a junior minister. If news reports are to be believed, Congress party has deployed Tharoor as “Tweeter-In-Chief” to take on Modi. This happening just a day before Narendra Modi ousted Tharoor from the Number 1 position makes one wonder, if this is a reward! If true, then bad timing for the Congress. As usual! Also, it is ironical that it is this same party which sacked Tharoor in the past & didn’t approve of his enthusiasm for social media. But all said & done, let truth be told: The most popular politician in India now officially is Narendra Modi. And his popularity is not just limited to India. By getting into the coveted Top 10 worldwide politicians list, he has now gone international.
As the dates for the general elections draw closer, his popularity is hitting newer records & is on the uphill. This is a testimony that India sees in him a man who can fix all the ills prevailing in the country. They see in him the CEO who can cleanse the rot which has spilled all over the system. The ‘Aam-Aadmi’ is flocking to support & strengthen him. They want this Lion from Gir to now leave no territory unconquered. They want India Modi-fied.

"America is not a Christian nation"

U.S. views on God and Life are now turning Hindu
"We Are All Hindus Now" - Newsweek Magazine

"America is not a Christian nation. We are, it is true, a nation founded by Christians, and according to a 2008 survey, 76 percent of us continue to identify as Christian (still, that's the lowest percentage in American history). Of course, we are not a Hindu—or Muslim, or Jewish, or Wiccan—nation, either. A million-plus Hindus live in the United States, a fraction of the billion who live on Earth. But recent poll data show that conceptually, at least, we are slowly becoming more like Hindus and less like traditional Christians in the ways we think about God, our selves, each other, and eternity.

The Rig Veda, the most ancient Hindu scripture, says this: "Truth is One, but the sages speak of it by many names." A Hindu believes there are many paths to God. Jesus is one way, the Qur'an is another, yoga practice is a third. None is better than any other; all are equal. The most traditional, conservative Christians have not been taught to think like this. They learn in Sunday school that their religion is true, and others are false. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the father except through me.""

Narendra Modi slams Centre for delaying completion of Sardar Sarovar dam

Congress-ruled Maharashtra and BJP-ruled Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh had completed their part of the work but the Centre was refusing to do the needful, he alleged.
Narendra Modi
Narendra Modi
Saying that he was ready to give credit for Sardar Sarovar dam project to Congress, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today demanded that Centre allow to install gates on the dam so that water could reach farmers in the parched regions of the state.
Slamming Congress-led UPA government for "playing politics" on the issue, Modi said he did not want credit over the project. He was willing to give credit to Congress leaders if they feared that Modi would benefit (politically) if the permission was granted, he said.
"Please give us water and take the credit if you want. There cannot be any politics in this. This is for Gujarat," Modi said, addressing a gathering of farmers here.
Blaming Congress for delay in gate installation, Modi said that initial estimated cost of the project was Rs 5,000 crore, but now it had escalated to Rs 50,000 crore.
Saying that the gates to be installed were as high as six-storey building, he said, "It would take two to three years to build each gate. There are 40 such gates to be built but still the Centre has done nothing on the issue." "I have met the Prime Minister a dozen times regarding the issue, but while he kept saying it must be done, no action has been taken."
Congress-ruled Maharashtra and BJP-ruled Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh had completed their part of the work but the Centre was refusing to do the needful, he alleged.
Ruing `failure' of Congress to provide crop insurance to the Gujarat farmers in the face of bad monsoon last year, Modi asked "whether money for the crop insurance had met the same fate as 2G spectrum and coal reserves".
His government had taken steps such as waiver of 50 per cent of the power dues and grant of interest concessions to help the farmers deal with the drought, he said.
